Acute Encephalitis Syndrome also known as Chamki bukhar has claimed the lives of 158 children in Bihar, the crisis seems to be increasing in bihar, the deadly outbreak has gripped the children of the state since the beginning of this month.
Muzaffarpur is the worst hit district, with the viral disease taking the lives of 122 children, followed by Vaishali where 17 children lost their life to AES. Another six children have lost their lives in Begusarai district, five in Samastipur, two each in Motihari, Patna and Bettiah and one each in Bhagalpur and Gopalganj.
The inadequate medical services also fueled the crisis, with people protesting against the Nitish government. The poor infrastructure of hospital, inadequate doctors, and medicines all are the culprits! The insensitivity of the authorities is also a concern.
While Nitish Kumar has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the children who died due to AES. He has also given directions to the health department, district administration and doctors to take necessary measures to fight the outbreak.
